Default Ubuntu 6.06 Live CD Error

Well, I decided to try out a Ubuntu Live CD before formatting my HDD to make sure my hardware would play nice with Linux and this is what I was presented with after it was finished loading all the files...

"Failed to start the X server (your graphical interface). It is likely that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to View the X server output to diagnose the problem?"

Apparently it doesn't like my graphics setup? I'm using a 64-bit Ubuntu 6.06 Live CD and here's my hardware...
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ (Brisbane)
2x512MB DDR2-800 Team Extreem CAS4
Gigabyte GA-M61PM-S2 motherboard (based on nVidia GeForce 6100 IGP and nForce 430 MCP)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 250GB SATA HDD
Samsung PATA DVD-Burner (boot drive with Ubuntu disk)
Lite-On DVD-ROM
Gateway 24" LCD connected to onboard video via VGA
Any ideas on how I can get up and running on Ubuntu ol' Linux gurus??

Interesting. Ubuntu 7.04 was just released a few days ago. Perhaps you should try that instead.

What what WHAT?! Yuri is stumped on a Linux question?! Now I'm really screwed....

Could it be the fact that I'm doing a live CD? I'll download 7.04 and give that a try, I guess I have a Ubuntu coaster now!

The LiveCD doesn't really have anything to do with it since that's exactly what your system will be like after you install it anyways. It's likely that 6.06 doesn't include a driver for your graphics card.

Anyways, as yuri said, there may not be a suitable driver for 6.06. I think your motherboard came after 6.06, which is what made it go boom!

Spelling error corrected, you suck..

Anyone have a link to a 7.04 Live CD download? I can't seem to find one, they are all the regular install disk. Or can I just use the regular install one as a Live CD?

The newer ones, 6.10 and on iirc are LiveCD install disks wrapped into one

Ok, I'm officially up and running on Ubuntu 7.04!!!!!!!!
The .iso download for 7.04 does create a disk that boots up as the live version, then gives you the option to do a full install with a GUI once you are up and running and everything plays nice.

Wow, I'm really excited, but how the heck do I install the nVidia graphics driver?? I don't know how to pull up the console to type in the stuff. What is the best way to do this since it won't let you just double click the icon and install its self?

EDIT:
I found the terminal, but by typing "sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1.run" like the nVidia site told me to do it doesn't like the command. What now? I hate command lines!

I condemn those that condemn command lines. Assuming you downloaded it to the desktop, try typing

"cd /home/*goofball*/Desktop/"

in console first (change *goofball* to your account :P ), then use

"sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1.run"

If that doesn't work, try

"sudo apt-install NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1.run"

or

"sudo apt-get NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1.run"

I'm not sure if those will work, but what the heck. Wait for yuri if that doesn't help. That package is a .run, which is suse, it may not play well with debian, so they may not work at all.
