Default Two questions.

I'm about to build a new gaming rig, and i'm using Vista 64bit, was curious if the new discs have solved an issue that you could only install the system with two gigs of ram, not four gigs, then you had to update it, and install the second card.

Also, my other question (for my old pc) How do i go about reformatting it? Still Xp, i was looking in the "guides" section, but i cant seem to figure out how to look at older guides, it only shows the most recent guides added.

I would say install with 2GB and then once it is up and running, insert the other 2GB.

As for reformatting, that should be able to be done with the partition area during the XP setup.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

I haven't heard if it's been fixed one way or another either. Probably safer to install with 2 gigs.

unless you have a SP1 installation disk, i would install 2 gbs, then d/l the ram hotfix from updates then install the remaining 2 gbs. SP1 however supposedly fixed it, but i'd still do 2gb 1st.

(thanks blake!)

The cd code's for windows are printed on the cardboard piece that came with the disc. I think theres a program you can use that tells you what your code is inside the OS....... Anyone know of a program for this?

Same as above, except usually in the start menu of a game it'll have some sort of information option that'll tell you what your game code is..... AFAIK....

Lol, I've done that too with other computers... I'm looking frantically for the code and then find that it's on my computer case.... "D'oh!!!"

I installed mine with 4GB without a problem, so I'd say it's not so much a Vista issue but a combo of things.

Magical Jelly Bean Software - Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder v2.0.1

If it's an OEM PC like a Dell or HP, Windows will install and activate automatically without the need for the keycode due to a property in the BIOS that Windows will read and recognize. Companies like that pay big bucks for that privilege so they don't get continuous calls about people needing to activate. The Genuine Advantage Label with the keycode is always somewhere on the PC, usually the top or side panel.
