| When I run Spybot Search & Destroy I'm told I need to run the program as administrator to fully clean out the problems it has found. I've only got one sign in and I thought by default that made me the administrator (checking User Accounts confirms this). I'm running Vista Ultimate 64X - could that be the issue? ![]() |

| Colonel Calamity | yes Vista is always the problem, haven't you learned that yet? ![]() I think that Spybot may not be 100% Vista compatible yet.. I would check their website and forums to see if they have a beta version or others have this same problem. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. |

| Modder-ator | While working on a friend's Vista Laptop, I got a similar issue where Vista said I couldn't uninstall a program because I wasn't an Administrator (which the account was set up as such). I just ended up giving up. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, I just wanted to let you know you aren't alone... |

| I guess we'll just have to wait for suppliers to catch up with V64. (sigh). I'll try the SSD forums as well. Thanks. Good to know I'm in good company. ![]() |

| When you go to run the program have you tried Right clicking on it? You should see an option to run as administrator in Vista. Ron |

| Modder-ator | That reminds me of another think you can try. There is something you can change (I think with a right click - Properties) to run the program in a different compatibility mode (select Windows XP or 2000). |

| Doh! (dope slap applied to own forehead) When in doubt one should always read the FAQ section first. Thanks Reloadron - spot on answer. The home of Spybot-S&D! ![]() |

| I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal. | To save time in the future, you can also right-click, select the Compatibility tab, and then check the 'Run this program as an administrator' box. |

| Thanks for that last bit - that should mean I won't have to do the right-click bit everytime I want to run the program. Is this something new in Vista? ![]() |

| Its UAC setting in vista. or im definitely typing the acronym wrong, but anyway its the new "security" feature in vista that doesn't ally programs to modify or change registry and other system settings without proper authority. This is mainly an issue for playing MMO games that have patches every week. I just shut mine off because its annoying and I dont need a computer to babysit me on what I can allow. Good for network/system admins who deal with computer noobs in the workplace (like mine) so they can't accidentally change settings. |
