Default Run Windows, Mac and Linux programs in one OS

Latest Fusion 2DOT0 Beta Makes Mac and Windows Play Nice - Webmonkey

Quote:
VMWare has release a second beta for its Fusion 2.0 Mac virtualization software. The latest beta brings several new features to the table including a much improved Unity mode which allows Windows, and now Linux, application windows to run alongside your normal Mac apps.
Gamers will be happy to note that DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 2 3D acceleration has been improved over the last beta — which means better gaming speeds. Windows-only high-def video playback is now reportedly faster as well.

The latest beta is a free download and VMWare will be offering the final version as free upgrade for existing VMWare Fusion 1.0 customers.
This is for Mac only but will be nice to see something like this for Windows and Linux as well

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Is this like Wine? Or do you still have to install VMware and install the OS on said virtual machine?

Still cool though. Maybe thus'll give my friend better fps on his macbook pro. He was quite disappointed when crysis didn't run even on minimum settings. (after seeing how much he paid for that mactop, I felt bad too, lol)

I just hope that apple won't launch another retarded ad campaign based off this release

from what I understand, this is more like a "virtual machine on a per application basis"... rather than running the VM, installing a separate OS, and flipping back and forth between native OS and virtual OS, this just runs the app itself without the host virtual OS. It frees up system memory and hard drive space from dedicating the Virtual OS to specific space, instead it just takes an extra few MB for the Virtualization side of things and the program runs as if it was native to OSX. Will be a bit slower but seems to work well from comments I see online about it.
