Default Registry Utilities

I use Registry Mechanic ver3 to fix registry errors and other problems - in fact, it has become my favorite Reg Utility. Before I reinstalled XP, I had used Reg Mech quite a bit and I started to notice my system slowing down in startups/shutdowns, and in overall performance with some apps starting very slowly.

So my question is this: Does the regular use of registry utilities cause any eventual damage to the reg and system?

I wish I had an answer for ya man. I guess I would like to see a response to the same question. In the mean time, I've just never bothered with registry cleaners or utilities of any kind and have not had any issues. I think as long as you are careful and precise about what you install on your system you won't have too much problem with things. Then again, it seems like I end up reformatting and reinstalling at least every 6 months for new hardware, etc!

I myself prefer CCleaner, several passes of that fixes any possible issue I may have ever had.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

With as many changes as your OS goes through over time, I think its pretty much the OS getting bloated itself and degrading, not the cleaner, the cleaner only prolongs this.

btw, Registry mechanic 6 is slick

I forgot all about this thread...

I think what Panda Man said had happened to my OS before I reinstalled it. It got all slow, and kinda quirky, and I did use Reg Mech quite a bit for a while, so maybe it did damage, maybe it didn't...
