Default Recover NTFS partition?

The NTFS partition on my sister's laptop was corrupted somehow. I need to know how to fix it, and fast! She's leaving for school Tuesday and she has to have her documents she had stored on there.

There are a lot of tools that claim they can recover lost data from a corrupted partition (Using Google), but I've never had any luck using any free program

INTEL QX9650
ASUS P5E3 Premium
4GB DDR3-1600
Sapphire HD 3870X2
Danger Den Tower-26 (Custom W/C)
5 x Seagate 250GB HDD in RAID5
BFG ES 800W PSU

Have you had any luck with anything at all? I'm willing to try long shots.. she's gonna freak out if she loses all of her school work and music.

This website claims to have a BartPE plugin that'll fix my partition table. I won't hold my breath, but I'm trying it.

If you repair the partition table chances are you'll lose stuff (if it doesn't really repair it properly)
If you're able to connect the drive to another computer as slave you can use Stellar Phoenix FAT & NTFS (Hard Drive Data Recovery Software Tools, Disk Recovery Utilities -Stellar , a program i've used in the past and that really saved my a$$).
It's not free, though they have a trial so at least you know if the data is recoverable (from there you could use another program maybe less expensive/free to recover her stuff).

Well, the BartPE disk was successful... sort of. It took about an hour to scan the drive and it found all of my data, but when I clicked Run to start explorer so I could backup all the files to my external HDD, the system froze. Hooray for Windows! Click the image to open in full size.

So now I'm in the process of scanning the disk AGAIN. Windows is a real PITA. She never would have had this problem in the first place had she been using Linux.

I'm still trying that BartPE disk. The stupid thing gives me a blue screen whenever I try to use my external hard drive. I have to scan it again for a THIRD time!

Cap'n Jeff: I may try that if I can't ever get the BartPE disk to work. I don't really have any money to spend on this though, so I'm looking for some free solutions.
