I've been seeing these stupid ads all over the place, I keep Adblocking them but it's not helping. The worst part is they suck bandwidth loading their massive filesize and pages take much longer to load

Just like other companies, MS is using an advertisement as a faux scientific finding to garner more sales. If the various linux distros would consolidate their war chests, they too could come up with some polished BS to sell to the masses.

I'd recommend to everyone that they give linux a serious try before making any decisions based on MS' marketing. Spin city anyone?

But Linux is there to help people, not to make money. Distros would rather have people try m$ and be like "wtf m8" and then switch vs have a smear campaign.

So you're saying RedHat, Suse et al aren't in it for the money?

Redmond plays dirty, always has, probably always will. My point was that if some of the major distros pooled their resources they too could come up with some very misleading ad campaigns. MS has a huge war chest at their disposal, and don't really care how misleading their advertisements are (if history is accurate).
