| Sometimes (like what just happened on our laptop), the little yellow Windows Update icon is down in the corner getting updates, then it will finish and disappear, perhaps to appear later. When updates are downloaded, but not installed yet, is there a way to get to them in the system manually to install them? My wife turned on her LT, and there were some updates ready, but I suggested she go to the Windows Update site and check for other updates. The site listed the same updates that were already downloaded and in the process of installing, which seemed to create some confusion in the system and then we got this long error message about a C:/Windows/System32 .dll memory location problem. I can't recall the wording of the error, but that was the jist of it. We did a system restore, and that has gotten rid of the error, and some updates downloaded again, but we can't get to them to install. I also checked the add/remove list, and the new updates aren't listed. If it's not fixed, then don't broke it! | ||||||||||||||

| Ever since Windows Update gave me a driver for another computer, I disabled automatic updates in the control panel and do the whole update process manually. If you know the approximate date of installation, check you update history in Windows update to get the name of the file, then search for it in your system. Delete. Update again. Try another system restore first? Good luck. | just disable automatic updates: 1. Start > Control Panel >Security Center > Automatic updates (Under manage security settings for)Then get rid of the annoying box about updates 1. Start > Control Panel >Security Center > Change the way security center alerts me (on the left)From now on manualy install updates on the website (That way you can also chose updates). Hope this helps ![]() | ||||||||||||||
