The latest build of Pidgin was released around 3:30 this morning. The icon set is very different, and not everyone is happy with the fact that it doesn't differentiate protocols with the icons anymore.

They took out the different icons for different protocols, that was one of the useful things it did! What differentiates this between GAIM 2.0 beta, and Pidgin 2.0 b7?

When you say "protocols", do you mean differentiation between AIM, Yahoo, MSN, etc? That would seem like a useful thing to differentiate, does the fact that this is labeled as beta mean that it could be fixed with a final release version?

Yes, that is what he means, the older GAIM 2.0 beta had these difference, the newer beta does not

say what? I thought this was an April fools joke because thats when the news originated... they better not have f**ked up a good IM client

I think it was a very poor decision on their part. Not ten minutes after Sean posted the builds, there were people joining the IRC channel to complain about it. I hope they change the icons back. To be honest, I really hate the new ones.
