Default Photoshop shapes

Ok, I cannot seem to figure out how to make simple shapes in photoshop!!
I can make squares, rectangles, circles, etc, but they always have a solid color fill. I want to make one of those shapes with a hollow fill and a colored border of a custom width. I'm sure there is probably an easy way, but I cannot find it. Can one of you Photoshop geniuses point me in the right direction?

What version are you using there?

You probably wanting to use paths if your doin what I think your wanting to do.
The simple way is to select the Paths button in the top panel, it's the middle button to the left of the shapes buttons, it looks like a pen tip inside a box. Now use the shape button that you wanted to use, and once you got the outline of the shape, right click and select Stroke. This will stroke the outline with whatever thickness and brush you choose. It's pretty much the same in all versions, but if it seems different let me know what version your using.

Oh I forgot, if you want the shape to be perfectly square or circle then hold Shift while drawing it.

Photoshop is great but it's funny how some of the simpler things like making a shape can be so difficult to find. I remember having the same issue (but I use CS, not CS2). In the toolbar there are so many functions behind one another, that you can get lost sometimes...

Haha, I know what you mean prolific, sometimes I'll whip out ms paint just to do simple stuff then copy/paste. One other tip, there's a grid function you can select under view, then click show i think.

Yep, that prettymuch does what I was hoping for. It took a bit to get it figured out, but I think I've got it down now. Thanks Dean!!! :wavey:
