Default Photo's with Picasa2??

Need a little help here, I recently built a computer for my sister in law and she wanted all her documents and photos from her old computer. I took the old computer home and transferred all documents and her My Pictures folder to my thumb drive. I then proceeded to reformat her Windows ME machine and I re-installed XP Home. Then it dawned on me that she asked me to get all her pictures from Picasa2, here's my question. Does Picasa just organize the pictures within the My Pictures folder or does it actually store pictures within a folder in Picasa? I looked at the software a bit on line and it looks like it's more of an organizer and a mild editor. Am I going to have to get a recovery program or am I all set here? Thanks for any insight.

from my experience, picasa is just an organizer. when i downloaded it, it went through my entire computer and found pics and videos and organized them by date.

i think you are good to go unless your sister stored pictures in a folder other than My Pictures.

I don't think she knows how to store them in a different location so I think I'm safe. Thanks for the reply.

Picasa has a backup utility. So, you can "get" all your Photo's from it, but It doesn't move any around. The advantage is that it will BU any files that are not in "My Photos".

Of course, a full sys BU would have made your safe.

Sounds like you may be OK though, if she was DL'ing from a camera, it defaults to the my photos folder. As long as she didn't change that, you should be OK.

You may have missed her cached pron files though (J/k).

How can I access that Backup utility though after a reformat? The only program I have to retrieve deleted data is "Recover my files" and I have it search for .jpg and .bmp files so it finds about 4000 files that I have to go through! So I don't have time to go through her cached pron files!!!

I was telling you for future reference. You can't recover after they are formatted over without recovering them first and then using Picassa as a back up tool.

But like I said, since she likely saved in the default area of My Photo's, you are likely OK.
