Default PC Configuration Software: Calling all programmers

I was in the middle of another computer build for a friend today when this idea popped in my head. Why not make a program that will simplify the creation of configurations? They are already pretty simple, but it can get tedious with all that cutting and pasting. I searched around the internet and couldn't really find anything that does that job.

I was thinking... there would be boxes like in Excel where you could input the product, put a link, the quantity and the price. Eventually you would have a whole list of the parts and at the bottom would be another square with the total.

In the options you will have the opportunity to input the tax percentage and ti will automatically determine the price. A nice printing layout would be cool too so that you can print it out and give it to the client/friend. There would still be plenty more features but this is just a simple run down of what i was thinking.

I have no programming background so I'm looking for someone who could do this. I'm not sure if its complicated or very simple. Of course this is a non-profit thing and i'm not willing to pay for someone to program it.

If anyone would like to help out feel free. I'd like to discuss this further with you guys if oyu think its a good idea.

I have some decent knowledge of prgramming with Visual Basic and I could make a form like this. It wouldn't be too hard. I could also do it right in Excel (with user forms) if you wanted to.

The only thing confusing me is that you prettymuch still have to do all the work of finding produts, links, and prices. If all you want it to do is do a couple calculations from numbers you put in, then why not just use excel plug in a couple forumulas into the appropriate cells?

It's definately a good idea, but there are several ways to go about it... Some being much more difficult than others.

The most ideal way would be to create an actual program. Yes youwill still need to find the products, links etc. but it will do the calculations for you and maybe some other features if I/we can think of some.

The second way, whichi s still great, would the excel plugs. I don't have any experience with excel.

I'd like to try the program but if its actual very time consuming or difficult then we can do it using excel.

It would take seriously about a total of two minutes to set up a couple cells in excel to calculate totals...

Just set up the sheet to look something like this:

With that formula, the total will automatically update as soon as you change one of the prices
The formula is =SUM(range)
where range is the range of cells you want to total. In this case, it is C2 to C7 (or C9, whatever) and a range is written as C2:C7

I want to add a tax multiplier. Instead of
=sum(###)
can i put 0.14Sum(###)
where 0.14 would be the tax percentage?
