Default Office Suites

Yurimxpxman's original poll got bungled, so here's a repost with more options. Yuri asks, "What Office Suite do you prefer?"

I actually like Microsoft Office 2007 quite a lot, especially its auto-appearing formatting toolbar. But after a couple months of use, it seems a bit pokey (especially with large presentation files). And I'm not willing to shell out the cash for the final version, so I chose OpenOffice. They're both really different, but they're almost tied IMHO.

I think most people are probably with you there. OpenOffice takes some time to get used to (so does Office 2007).

Yes, Star Office, but most distros come with OpenOffice already installed so it's just easier to keep OpenOffice. The Sun Workstations, at work use Star Office. It's actually pretty damn good.

ok, I'm a little confused. Sun made OpenOffice too. Is Star Office just a closed-source office suite by the same people then that's better than their open-office version?

Star Office cost money, and includes support, updates, and all the other goodies you get when you actually pay for software. Its more geared for the Corporate world. Open Source Software has security vulnerabilities companies prefer not to deal with. It also comes with little to no support.

I used to use Word Perfect back in the 90's (I think my dad used the DOS version too). It was pretty good. But it's kind of annoying because none of the latest suites like the files it made. I have to convert them by hand LOL
