Default NTLDR missing

I tried reinstalling windows XP on my daughters computer and got a error so I rebooted to try again and I get a NTLDR is missing and it won't boot from the CD at all. Doesn't give me the option to boot from CD even though it sees it.

Make sure the HDD with Windows XP on it is set to First boot device. If you are trying to install XP, then make sure the optical drive is first boot device. Or there may be an option to make a boot selection, for instance on my MB I hold F8 during post and a list of boot devices comes up, then of course select the optical drive with the XP CD in it.

Found the solution on another forum. Boot from the CD and enter the recovery console, and type the following:

c:\copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\
c:\copy d:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\

Hope it helps!

Check to make sure you don't have a floppy disk in the floppy drive, if you have one.

The problem is that it won't boot from the CD. There's no floppy and it's set to boot from CD first. I may have found a solution with my Maxblast boot CD I'll post back later.

wait, so you can't boot from the CD at all, even if its set to be the first boot device? Or windows just doesn't want to boot from the cd?

It didn't want to boot from the windows CD until I used my Maxblast CD to repair. All is well now and windows is installing.

If you the problem was that you weren't able to partition the drive with the Windows install CD (because it rebooted) it was because of a bogus partition. Somehow it happens (and way too often) that a bugged partition will render the Windows XP cd quite useless. =/
