| I have my new laptop that came with Vista and my desktop which has XP. I'm trying to get the Vista laptop to network with the XP desktop to share music and video files. I have gone through some Windows setups trying to get this to work. So far I have it where Vista can see that my XP desktop is connected to the network. But I cannot actually get on the computer. And the XP computer has no idea the Vista computer is even there. Anyone have any advice on this or links that could walk me through it? Thanks. |

| Already have that installed. It did allow Visat to see and place the XP computer correctly, but I still can't figure out how to actually access the XP comp. from Vista. And the XP computer still has no idea the Vista computer even exists. |

| Colonel Calamity | that was my next question also... is either of them 64-bit? I remember seeing an optional Windows Update for XP relating to Vista x64 and network connections... I don't see it anymore on mine so I must have already installed it or hidden it. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. | Yeah there are folders already shared. If I connect another XP computer to the network I have no problems sending files between it and my XP computer. |

NM I miss read that. Try searching the computers by IP address see what you get. Last edited by Hitman; April 9th, 2008 at 20:42. | |

| 5 Minute Mod Man | Make sure you have the same workgroup name and search via computers in the workgroup. Although I don't think it will affect the recognition of another computer, Vista has a picky ability to disallow access unless the user/password matches a user on the Vista PC. Another option is try using a network hub (which you may already be using), and make sure the local IPs are different. |
