| Yes, I know it's not the best thing in the world, but I got hella pissed at XP (it keeps freezing up for NO REASON!), so I decided to pop in Vista. ![]() First off, Vista is so much faster than XP right now, considering there is nothing installed... hehe. But now I need to transfer file and settings. I'm under the assumption that Vista has changed a few things and files are placed in different locations now. So, I hit up the March issue of MPC, which had something about Vista so you can use Windows Easy Transfer to move files. The problem with this though is that I'm dual-booting XP and Vista. I need to be able to transfer files and settings from the same computer, but just on a different partition. How do I go about doing this? Can I just do the normal thing and copy and paste to Vista? Also, I've utterly convinced my dad to buy more memory for this bugger (yay, 2GB on the way!). Any recommendations? Should I just grab the Corsair VS RAM? And lastly, about video cards... Are the midrange DX10 cards by nVidia out yet? I haven't been in the computer scene for a while. Thanks you guys! Sameer Oh, and the other thing that's bugging me is the size of the icons... I've already changed the icon settings in Appearance, but it's still too big for my taste... Is there any way to do this? - Core 2 Quad Q6600 - DFI Infinity 975X - 4GB Corsair XMS2 w/ DHX DDR2-800 - 250GB Seagate 7200.10RPM + 160GB Hitachi 5400.4RPM - ATi Radeon X1900XT 256MB - Cooler Master Centurion 5 + OCZ StealthXStream 600W - Acer 19" P191W Monitor - Logitech Z-5500 Digital + Logitech MX Revolution - Vista Ultimate x64 Last edited by gvblake22; March 22nd, 2007 at 15:40. | your pains are only just beginning.... ok the first midrange DX10 cards are not out yet but the 8600's are on the way Nvidia's 8600 series cards expected within a few months - TechSpot News As for the icon size, look under accessibility and see if you can shrink the icon size in there. As for transferring files, you should be able to startup the file transfer wizard and get them from the XP partition. Sometimes you have to boot into XP, start its transfer wizard and get the files collected, then go to Vista and import that, but most times the first way should work... It asks where do you want to import from and gives you the option of removable drive, network drive, another hard drive or partition, etc... As for the more memory, that is definitely the way to go because Vista is a memory hog ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! I checked up on the icon size in Ease of Access Center (that's what it's called now I guess) and couldn't find a thing. Oh well. As for the files, I'm trying the Transfer wizard again in a second. :) - Core 2 Quad Q6600 - DFI Infinity 975X - 4GB Corsair XMS2 w/ DHX DDR2-800 - 250GB Seagate 7200.10RPM + 160GB Hitachi 5400.4RPM - ATi Radeon X1900XT 256MB - Cooler Master Centurion 5 + OCZ StealthXStream 600W - Acer 19" P191W Monitor - Logitech Z-5500 Digital + Logitech MX Revolution - Vista Ultimate x64 | |||||||||||||||

I'm looking at either the Corsair VS ($68 at NewEgg) or getting a set of Crucial RAM through the configurator, which I know will work ($96). I'm dead sure the VS will work too though, so I don't know what to get... EDIT: BTW, I've decided to manually transfer files anyways... So this is now about what RAM to get/video card.... hehe, I'm sure Rich can hit me up... ![]() - Core 2 Quad Q6600 - DFI Infinity 975X - 4GB Corsair XMS2 w/ DHX DDR2-800 - 250GB Seagate 7200.10RPM + 160GB Hitachi 5400.4RPM - ATi Radeon X1900XT 256MB - Cooler Master Centurion 5 + OCZ StealthXStream 600W - Acer 19" P191W Monitor - Logitech Z-5500 Digital + Logitech MX Revolution - Vista Ultimate x64 Last edited by wtcnbrwndo4u; March 17th, 2007 at 08:49.

![]() Plus, I need DDR2-533... a 1GB kit in specific... Well, actually, I can use a 1GB stick in the 3rd memory slot and still have dual channel right? - Core 2 Quad Q6600 - DFI Infinity 975X - 4GB Corsair XMS2 w/ DHX DDR2-800 - 250GB Seagate 7200.10RPM + 160GB Hitachi 5400.4RPM - ATi Radeon X1900XT 256MB - Cooler Master Centurion 5 + OCZ StealthXStream 600W - Acer 19" P191W Monitor - Logitech Z-5500 Digital + Logitech MX Revolution - Vista Ultimate x64

| might as well step up to 667 or 800 if you can... the prices seem to be in the sweet spot right now for 667 as it is slightly cheaper than 800 but about the same as the 533. Might as well get a 2x 1GB DDR2-667 and hold onto the 1GB 533 for another build.... or get another 2x512MB 533 and use all 4 slots (I tend to suggest the 2x 1GB setup and leave the other 2 slots open for future updating) Generally with the newer 775 setups, it will not use dual channel with 1 or 3 sticks but I would check with your mobo documentation to be sure. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair!
