| I'd like to know if there's a program that can unlock whatever it is that locks a USB drive? %95 of the time when I click on the little green icon at the right bottom of the screen to remove a drive I get that error "the device cannot be stopped right now..." this is very annoying and I know that the drive itself or any files on it is being used by any programs or the OS. Thanks. Intel Q6600 Corsaire 2x1gb XMS2 GIGABYTE 965P-DQ6 BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 320 OCZ EvoStream 720w XP PRO |

| You might want to try to reformat it. E8400 DFI Blood Iron P35-T2RL 4GB G.Skill 800MHz Sapphire Radeon HD3870 512MB Silverstone DA650W WD 250GB + Seagate 320GB |

| Has nothing to do with my problem at all!!!! The drive is getting locked by something , most of the time by a program that uses the file on the removable drive. But I get the same results when all programs are closed. Similar to when you want to delete a file but it says access denied... most of the time it's locked by a program that's not even open. | Silence..Or I kill you! | I have a usb flash drive and a external drive that do this same thing! About the only way that I have been able to get it to say "safe to remove" is to run the shut down twice. Always seems to be ok the second time around, not sure why, but it always seems to work. |

Otherwise you might want to change the transfer and connection type of the drive. Connect your drive, go to device manager (Control panel->System->Hardware tab->Device manager or Start->Run, type "devmgmt.msc") then find your drive in the list (Disk drive section->Name of the drive) Right click it then Properties, Policies tab and then change the write caching and safe removal mode to Optimize for quick removal. :) | |
