Default IE7 Question

For those of you that still use Internet Explorer for their web browsing duties, is there a way to change the layout of IE7 so that it reflects the way IE6 looked and was organized? I honestly cannot stand IE7's organizational layout; I liked IE6's much better. Is there a way to have IE7 installed but still keep IE6's functionality?

It's kind of like when you go into the Start Menu properties of XP and can choose "Classic View" where you can have your Start Menu resemble earlier versions of Windows.

There is no way that I have found to do it. I agree about the layout. They had someone develop the layout who never intended to use it. Their only goal was to make it look different.

No, you can't move around the buttons and such. You can display the traditional menu bar, but that's about it as far as toolbar manipulations.

I suspect Microsoft will update this limitation sometime down the road, or someone will make an add-on. Time will tell though. :-/

Well, until M$ get's their ass in gear, I won't be using IE7, regardless if it has tabbed browsing or not.

That is actually how I felt during the beta testing period. I used FF for about a month and when the production release of IE7 came out, I installed it again. I am very happy with it now and have gotten used to the button changes and placements.

And they say you can't teach an old dog new tricks......HMPHHHH!

Here floppy....come here boy!

Right click an open spot and select "Menu Bar", that will at least give you the File Edit View Tool crap... now I have seen a tool or two that rearranges this stuff but it is 3rd party and not official

heres one way:

1. Close Internet Explorer 7 then go to Start->Run-> regedit

2. Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser in the left pane

3. Highlight the "WebBrowser" folder then in the right pane, right click and New->DWORD Value

4. Where is says "New Value #1" rename it to "ITBar7Position"

5. Double-click on your new key, and in the box where it says "0" change it to "1"

6. Restart IE7

there are plenty of spots for more IE7 info, there plenty somewhere called enhanceie

Thanks HL and Corsair!

That registry hack is handy for those that want the menu bar (File, Edit, View, etc) and Links at the top of the browser above the URL bar, but unfortunately it still doesn't allow manually rearranging the bars or the buttons.
