Default Gah!! Kaspersky = super restrictive!

I installed this thing and god does it work! :)

But, after a few restarts, it starts getting uber restrictive. I wasn't able to open FireFox, IE, AIM, etc. When I closed it, it let me open FF, but the connection was dead. I had to uninstall it and restart to fix it. Now I'm running nothing. I tried configuring Windows Firewall so I'd have SOMETHING but it won't open either....

These viruses are KILLING this computer. I can't completely clear anything for some reason. I think it's gone because I haven't gotten any popups in a while, but I can't be too sure.

So it's not Kaspersky anymore I think. I think it's the virus. After I posted this thread, I closed FF and was like dang, I forgot to do something. It wouldn't let me open it again. It says I don't have the permissions or something (yes, I'm an admin but it shouldn't make a diff).

I'm forced to run in Safe Mode right now... damnit.

You'd pretty much be better off just reinstalling windows, and infection that bad is usually close to impossible to fully repair. Though if its running the way you want, go for it! Just trash kaspersky and get NOD32.

EDIT - Probably is, sounds like an infection I got about 3 years ago that took away all priveledges what-so-ever. I couldn't even logoff. Logged in as administrator and managed to recover.

God, what are you guys downloading?! I don't even have an antivirus and just use whatever Windows firewall is set up with SP2 and I haven't had any viruses in years! Sameer, I think you need to take a step back and examine your internet surfing habits...

I agree, haven't had a virus for years, 2-3 years back I had some malicious script install itself and screw up IE, but that was it. First and only serious virus I ever had was the Chernobyl virus.

My brother has Limewire on his computer and he has no viruses. I have it on mine as well and I've never been infected.

It's not what I'm downloading... it's where I'm going... You know all those crack sites... Yeah, I got one off of there and now I'm screwed... :)

I'm backing up stuff to my iPod (thank GOD I have this), DVDs, and the OSX partition. I'll be done in a bit.

Plus, it was time to reformat... it's all good.

Before you transfer any of the files over from your iPod to your fresh install of Windows, make sure you scan the contents. Any viruses you may have now can certainly reside on there until they got transferred back over to your computer.
