| I'm looking for a good solution for firewall software. I have been waiting 2 years for "NETFILTER" by GRC Steve Gibson ... likely the worlds best "Assembly Language" program developer. [Govt Agencies call on these guys to solve international Security hacking issues.] GRC*|*Steve Gibson's WebZone:** Until they come out with it ... I have to use other security stuff. I don't use Microsofts Firewall ... I hate dumb-down Bloat-ware ... especially integrated stuff that has no modular standalone feel. I'm looking for a super tiny footprint ease of use and current technology firewall program. [Preferably in assembly] Have tried the following: Kerio Tiny personal firewall Syquest ZoneAlarm [Becoming dumbdown bloatware] PC tools Black Ice [Just the firewall part] A few others I can't remember I will be trying Sensiveguard next ... | Tried Sensiveguard ... I like it [Clean and simple] but it doesn't allow adjusting remote admin permissions. Plus it dumps Legacy Registry entries that I have to remote registry edit to remove .... grrrr Last edited by Tech Geek Deluxe; November 4th, 2007 at 17:59. |

| Jetico Firewall v1 (the free one, but older) has a really tiny footprint. I think it was 8mb when I used to use it. There's also Look 'n' Stop that has really low memory fooprint. 6mb I believe. It's a shareware. Both are a bit technical, you need to understand rule based firewalls a bit. However, both have application rules so it will feel just like any other firewalls (like it detects applications trying to access the internet and you can allow/block) |

| Colonel Calamity | I love Comodo It is free, its not that small but it is not a resource hog (its process is 18MB memory used on my system).. it is rated much higher than most other firewall programs out there because the company is a security company much like GRC. SSL Free Firewall Two Factor Authentication Products from Comodo Their other software is hit and miss, the anti-virus is not rated very well so I use Avira for that and AVG for email scanning. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | Thanks Screwball ... I'm going to give it a try. That is one I have heard of for years but never experimented with ... Yet. I've tried perhaps a dozen so far ... but without finding the perfect fit. Thanks again! |

| Version 3 of Comodo is suppose to be finalized and released soon. I read that its footprint is going to be less than Version 2.5 (12MB if I remember right). Can't wait :) |

| Steve's software is amazing. If anyone has a dead hard rive -- pick up spin rite. That thing works miracles. |

| gamer --- yeah it is quite amazing ... at 177kb his program actually readjusts and realigns head angles and checks the entire hard drive internal mechanical parts along with the best recovery ever developed. WOW! |

| Thanks Screwball ... I like it a lot. Still a bit of a heavyweight as far as footprint ... but it has the greater power and functionality for its size ... doesn't leave one with that "bloated" feeling. Perhaps GRC will have a 1Gig powerhouse that solves security issues with an "outside the box" clarity and simplicity. I personally like multiple tiny assembly apps doing specific tasks that are superfast low resource workhorses. Geo |
