| I'm in the process of setting my sister's laptop back up, but I'm having a problem. There are two items in the device manager that I can't find drivers for; Base System Device and Multimedia Audio Controller. How can I find out what drivers I need for them? |

When you go to the device manager, click on the hardware that is missing the driver, go to update driver, and when it promps you to check on the internet, let it go to the internet. I have found that sometimes it will really work, and find the proper location for the drivers. If all of that don't work, and you can not figure out what brand or type of hardware it is, you may have to pull the dang thing apart, get the brand, and the model # and go to DriverGuide.com (printer drivers, cdrom drivers, modem drivers, sound drivers, mouse drivers, monitor drivers, etc.) - DriverGuide.com You may be able to find them there! | |

![]() Let me add that I've had this issue before and will say it can be very annoying. What I normally do before reformatting a system I've never worked on; is go to start > all programs > accessories > system tools > system information. There is an export option, but be warned that you may not be able to view it on another computer. I used to copy it out of a text file and into a word file, or print screen the device manager. I would also back up the driver folder, it's saved my rear on occassion. | Well, what the specs are actually is the problem. I've been unable to get any details from the OEM (I've been waiting forever for a person to get on their support chat) and none of the system information in the OS has provided enough information to find the drivers. That's why I was hoping someone knew of a free scanner or something =) |

| It's from iBuyPower. The model is something along the lines of Battalion 101 I believe (or something like that). It's about a year and a half old, running a mobile athlon 64 3500+ and ATI mobility radeon graphics. I found a site that'll scan your system and find the latest drivers, but you have to pay for it (PC Pitstop's website). I'm hoping to find something like that for free. |

| iBuyPower's guy was absolutely useless. Here's the information I got from Blondie's suggestion: "Name: Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device -- Manufacturer: Microsoft". I'm trying to find something on Google about it, but all I've found so far is other people with the same problem. |

| Have you tried running a program like HWinfo to scan the hardware, it usually gives detailed results for all the HW. EDIT: Once you identify the mobo manufacturer, all the drivers for each integrated component should be on the website. iBuypower links to some here || AMD Athlon64 3800+ Venice | Asus A8N5X s939 | OCZ Premier PC3200 Du-Ch 1GB | Sapphire X1600Pro 512MB PCI-e | 1xWD 80Gb & 1xWD 250Gb Sata(s) | Antec SLK3800B Case | Enermax NoiseTaker 485W || Last edited by pc_guy; January 6th, 2007 at 13:25. |
