Default Exe decompiler/extractor?

a) Are these legal?

b) I need one, because I really want to get some files out of certain .exe's I have, and I cant find it anymore.

I used to have I think Res Edit, but now its something completely different. What it used to do is I could drag the exe into the window of Res Edit and it would extract each individual part, like the .icon and other stuff into a folder.

Anyone know of one of these?

WinRAR does it.

as long as you have it installed, u just right click it and say "Extract To..."

and there you are.

A) Depends on the program. Some you can freely unpack them, others you can't. You have to ask the program author.

B) See A. I won't guide you thru unpacking an exe if it's not legal.

WinRAR 3.62.

polobunny is right > not all .exe's are "unpackable" legally. if they are, though, WinRAR WILL do it.

BUT

im not sure if there are some legal ones that, for whatever reason, WinRAR will just not read...WinRAR is damn good though, so i don't know.

good luck.

No, even those that WinRAR can be protected by the author. Besides, WinRAR unpacks installers. Not compiled exe's.

I know, I just want to mess with ya! Try using 7-zip, I find it to work even better than winrar. right click .exe -> 7-zip -> Extract files

You could also try

Free Data Extractor download

But I never used it before and its just a trial. If I file can't be decompiled the way you want it, you'll have to find the source :(
