Default Download manager recommendations?

And of you guys use / know of a good download manager? I figured I'd ask instead of trial and error; didn't want to pick up one that might be bad for my system

What's so good about a download manager? Why is one needed? It's the age of DSL, after all...

Yeah, the only one I was familiar with and liked was IDM (internet download manager), except it was always a trial for 30 days. Tired of dealing with it. But yes, thanks; I'll check these out =).

They are mostly useful now days in case you loose connection for various reasons, computer shutting down, modem dropping connection, cable comes unplugged, loose power, things like that. With a DL manager you can start DL where you left off.

They are not only useful for resuming DLs, which was probably the nicest feature when most people were on 56k. The other good thing about DL managers are the ability to connect to multiple sources while downloading the same file.

This is beneficial even with fast connections. What if the source you are downloading from only limits their uploads (your download) to 100k? If they allow multiple connections from the same IP or if there are other sites with the exact same file, you can DL (parts of) the file simultaneously and end up downloading the entire file much quicker.

I've got Cox Cable here. For some reason if I try to download something over 100 megs, it will fail. EVERY time. *shrugs* Who knows. It's wierd... the "percent done" will disappear and it will simply repeat the "folder floating through the air" animation FOREVER! It never cancels the download, though. *shrugs* I do get faster downloads with them also (at least with IDM I did).
