Default Cannot boot from CD Code 5?

I am just trying to reformatt a fresh harddrive using a WinXp CD to try and boot from. After going through the Bios window I get this message. I have tried using an alternate CD with the same results, any solutions on how i might be able to fix this? I just want to get Windows installed on the system and this is frustrating . Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What system is this on? The code 5 could be a bad cd image or a cd drive thats having a problem. Do you have a OS installed on this HDD right now? If you have a linux OS on there you might need to use a boot cd or floppy to start the install.

From what I've found Microsoft has nothing on cd code 5 but there are a few cases of that code coming up and the likely cause is bad cd image, bad cd drive or trying to install in place of linux. A bad driver is another suggested problem.

Is your cd a boot cd or a full windows XP system cd? There are boot floppy's too that I've had to use when reinstalling Xp to replace linux.

You can create a set of boot floppy discs here. Download details: Windows XP Professional Utility: Setup Disks for Floppy Boot Install

I'm not sure what your problem is if it's a bad OS cd or it's not recognizing the cd drive. Do you have the bios set to install from cd first?

You said you tried to use 2 different copies of windows cds with the same error? I would gamble that it is the optical drive. Try using a different one from another system.

And if both Windows CDs are copies, make sure they are not from the same image.

The more i go through testing and retesting im thinking something maybe wrong with the drive also. What baffles me is that in my previous post the same drive could read the disc but i got the 000021 stop error. Now that im using a different HD im getting this error, just really weird.
