Default Browsing Distributions

"Since the day Linus Torvalds first announced his pet project in the MinixAndrew S. Tanenbaum), Linux has been a truly customizable system. Everything from the web browser right down to the pure kernel can be hacked and compiled to each individual's preference and need. For those of us who haven't the knowledge or time to compile our own custom system from scratch, the open-source community has provided many excellent alternatives to bring the average individual the raw power of the rebel Unix alternative, with the ease of a standard desktop environment. Today we will be discussing the pros and cons of each of the world's most prominent Linux distributions. Join us in this race to the top alternative OS!" - Josh Williams

I actually did review a large number of distributions originally, but I cut it back to these three because they seem to be the only ones that stand out. The others were very similar to these (Mandriva is very similar to Fedora, etc.), so I stuck with the originals.

They pretty much all look the same since your using KDE and GNOME in them. I was suprised with Ubuntu's install system and desktop look but I ran into problems with the latest release. I would suggest that a new user find the latest stable version of whatever distro they want to try.

for some 6.06 works well but 6.10 and newer doesn't, other 6.10 works best... I will be trying the latest 7.04beta when I get a chance

Ubuntu 6.06 seems to have the least issues, while 6.10 has the most tweaks and options. For stability stick with 6.06, but either are good if you know just a tiny bit of 'linux'.

I can't wait to get my secondary system finalized so I can get Ubuntu loaded up!

Have you heard anything about PCLinuxOS or Freespire/Linspire?
