| Hi all. Wondering how many of you have upgraded to AVG Free Edition 8.0 and if you've had any problems. I've installed it on a desktop and a laptop with the same results: system freezes after a period of time (usually 30-60 minutes - sometimes less) and computer must be shut down by means of the power switch. After complete removal and installation of AVG Free 7.5 both systems were fine. Since version 7.5's days are numbered, I'll have to find a replacement with a scheduler for those owners who forget to run scans for weeks and months at at time. | Colonel Calamity | one alternative that is rated higher than AVG is called Avira. The down side is that it does not scan POP email coming in like AVG does. I myself have not had this problem on any of my machines. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. | Works fine for me, but it ALWAYS trys to update before the internets connected making me have to do it manually. Little annoying but only a minor gripe |

| I have read on the internet where others have had the same problem, but this does not seem to be wide-spread. I wonder if it could possibly be a compatibility problem due to another security product. (Also running Spybot, Windows Defender, and ThreatFire.) One thing I did notice was that during installation I received a warning that another antivirus program was running, even though my earlier version of AVG had already been uninstalled. | Installed Avira AntiVir on three machines and so far it has performed flawlessly. The ads are a bit of a pain, but a small price to pay for a free application.
