Does any of you know where I can get some (preferrably free) animation software that I can use to create animated movies with? TIA, Nathan P.

Years ago I used Animation Shop 3 which was included with then JASC Paint Shop Pro. All of it now comes under Corel, however, you can download a free trial version and mess with it. It was fine for doing basic animations. I am not sure how practical it would be for movies. Products - Digital Imaging - Corel Corporation A Google will turn up other places to get it and downloads. What exactly are you trying to do? Ron

Whoa, if you want to create actual movies as the cartoons seen on TV I am thinking the simple annimation program I suggested sure won't work. You will need a good video editing program as well as a good graphics program to create your charcters. I don't see anything free to get where you want to go. You are looking at stuff like Avid: Avid offers products and services for nonlinear digital media creation or similar programs. There are many cheaper but if you ate after television grade stuff the Avid stuff is good commercial grade. Ron

You are really undertaking one heck of a project. Now I am clueless with most of this stuff, especially the newer stuff. However the wife manages a small TV station that does plenty of local origination stuff so I see it all the time. Just editing a 30 min. shoot can take hours and that is a shoot without creating anything. Share what you come up with. Ron | |

Blender's an excellent 3D modeler that's even used by many professionals. It's open-source and works on just about every platform, from Windows to FreeBSD. I'd use it myself if I had the talent, but, alas, I do not.
