| I acquired an Ultra X2 Connect 550 Watt power supply a few days ago and I must say the installation changed my opinion about modular power supplies immediately. The cables are so nice and neat and titanium also not to mention they fit very snug on both ends. The biggest advantage to this modular thing is that is it so much easier to route cable when both ends are free to move. Wow.... The other big advantage is when you need to remove your power supply like i do to remove my Katana 775, all I have to do is unplug the cables from it and unscrew it and take it out. The putting it back in is just as simple. I was sold just from how easy that was to do. The voltages look fine and there were many cable options and plenty left over for future including an 8 pin eps cable. Anyway if anyone wants the spec they can google it so i wont go into that. The only problem was that after the system was on a few minutes the fan would take off and sound like a 747. I could hear it easily above my 3 tri speed antecs and my scythe and northbridge fan. So after some pondering i decided it was an air noise more than a fan noise. I pulled the grill off the fan and put everything back in and like magic it was silent. I had read that you have to be careful of small round holes in fan grills. The air was just whirring away through them. So as long as nobody sticks their finger between my Scythe and my PSU when the system is running.....I think this was a nice solution. I would dare say it is now quieter than the Antec SPII that I had before. Hope this info helps someone else. Commodore 64 overclocked into outerspace ![]() |

| OK......I can do that. I'll be getting another motherboard in the near future, so that should be a good time to take some pictures of the modular cabling and the fan grill. I don't have a multimeter, so any voltages will have to come from speedfan and bios. Commodore 64 overclocked into outerspace ![]() |

| Modder-ator | Even for non-reviewer types, a digital multimeter is something that can be good to have. Just to get an accurate reading of your voltages to make sure your power supply is doing its job. They can be had for under $20 at any hardware store usually. Anyway, I've heard both good and bad things about the Ultra products, so I would be very much looking forward to any in-depth review you might be able to provide us :) |
