Default Silverstone Decathlon DA750 Power Supply Review

Click the image to open in full size.

Look Ma, no cables! Like it or not, modular cables are here to stay, and Silverstone is getting in on the action too. Featuring the same single +12V design as its wired siblings (Olympia OP series), Silverstone's new Decathlon units boast high efficiency, low noise, and lots of power. Today we put the DA750 under the scope and throw a pair of nVidia 8800GTS videocards into the mix. - Paul Lilly

I was doubting it by just reading that it has a single 12V rail, but 60A on a single rail? That's nuts!

Single rails are very effective, as can be multiple rails. FWIW, PC Power & Cooling (widely considered the top dog in the PSU industry, and they price their PSUs accordingly) will only utilize single rail designs.

wow. This powersupply is exactly what I'm looking for. Modular cables, lots of power, huge single rail. The price isn't too bad either.

I Like Watercooling. D-Tek Fuzion, MCP655, MCR220

Good lookin' PSU, but it's out of my price range. Does Silverstone have any plans of releasing some lower wattage units (like 500W or 600W with a similar design (modular cables, single high voltage 12v rail, etc)?

The lowest wattage model in the Decathlon series is the 650W DA650, which sells for $176 shipped on the 'Egg.

That is a bit expensive for a 650W 54A power supply considering you could pickup an OCZ GameXStream 700W quad 18A rail (72A total) for less. I can see how with 1 big 12V rail there's "no loss" but even then doesn't seem much like a bargain to me. I hope the prices will drop a bit overtime as it looks like a nice power supply. :)
