Default Raidmax Volcano

I have a chance to purchase this PSU. It's a good price. I was just looking for some good or bad expierences. Thanks, Bailey.

P.S. It's the one that is modular. I have found a few reviews and think I'll definately buy it. I would still like to know how you guys feel about them. Thanks again, Bailey.

I think they are all modular actually, the only 2 I've seen are the RX-530 and 630 models. They are rock solid and very good psus, mines been running strong for over a year now.

Here are a couple reviews of the 630W unit...
3DGameMan
DevHardware

Looks the only major difference between the 530W and the 630W is the 2A less on the 12V2 rail. The 12V rails are a little on the weak side for such a high wattage unit, looks like they put it all into the 5V rail to give it the 530W or 630W rating... I've never used Raidmax, so I can't comment on it's performance or reliability.

RAIDMax has a tarnished reputation, most of their PSUs are cheap and generic. The Volcano series is manufactured by Topower, and are highly reputable. These power supplies are aged though, the latest video cards at the time were not very power hungry like they are today. Overall, I would recommend against using these on high end systems simply because there are better ones out there, but as far as mid range psus, they are awesome. My one complaint is the sleeving. Its like working with 2 inch thick rubber! Rather hard to work with in small cases.

Don't like em, don't use em. Haven't seen an impressive review about one of them. But then, I don't even consider anything from Raidmax when the words Power Supply are used in the same sentence.

The volcano series isn't actually manufactured by RAIDMax, they're rebadged Topower, so you have nothing to fear. As far as other RAIDMax PSUs go, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!

I'm with Blake in having concern over the amp distribution. A 630W PSU should should have more than just 36A available on the +12V rail(s), rather than throw 50A on the +5V rail. As pointed out, this lets them give the unit a higher wattage rating, which is sketchy marketing.

My general advice is to keep looking, or more specifically, check out any of the following (depending on your budget):

OCZ GameXstream series
Antec Trio series
Corsair HX series
Seasonic S12 and M12 series
Anything recent from Tagan, Fortron Source, or Enermax

Thanks for all your input. I have read good and bad. But it's hard to pass because the price is right. If it fails or just dosen't pull it's weight, I can always get another Antec. I've always had good luck with them. Thanks again, Bailey.

Or burn a more expensive component to save a few bucks.
But what do I know.

For the same price you can get an Antec NeoHe 500W (or a 430W without MIR) which I would still choose over it.
