Default query on modding a PSU

Hello,

I read an article on modding a PSU.I want to know that why is the molex connector(which goes into the mobo) of a PSU is tweaked and why not a spare connector ???? Also, after the modding is over when the PSU is being tested as a stand alone power tester wher is it connected ? Does it still remain in the case or in the AC outlet ? plz clarify asap

warm regards

Robin

Could you provide a link to the article? If I understand correctly, the article is a guide on how to turn your powersupply into a test psu.

The ATX Connector (it is not called a molex), is modified because it contains the wires that tell the powersupply to turn on. The 4-pin and nay other connector do not have these wires.

After you finish modding it, you connect it to what you want to test. It can be put anywhere you want. It only needs to be plugged into an ac outlet using a power cable. You cannot power a system with this powersupply anymore. It is useful for testing components like fans, cathodes, cd drives, and misc.parts but not for hard drives, videocards, motherboards, ram, and other key components.

I Like Watercooling. D-Tek Fuzion, MCP655, MCR220

I think we need a little more clarification on what exactly they were modding on the PSU. As Tyreal mentioned, a link to the article you read would be wonderful
