| HL's Technomancer | Well, Newegg refunded my money since the Hiper 580w was out of stock, and despite being a stable PSU its modular cabling really didn't clean up the clutter as I expected, and it's since gone back to the 109 price tag. Anyway, I got back 89 bucks, since it was on sale when I got it, and am looking for a PSU between 50-80. So far I've found this: Newegg.com - Rosewill RP600V2-S-SL 600W SLI Ready-ATX 12V V2.01 Power Supply 115/230 V CSA,UL,TUV - Retail I'm not familiar with Rosewill, some people say its average, some people say avoid it, and at that price its probably more like 525w instead of 600 but I was looking at the connections, 2 6 pins PCI-E and the 4+4 pin mainly. Newegg.com - HIPER HPU-4K530-MS ATX12V v2.2 530W Power Supply 100 - 120V UL, CE, TUV, FCC, CB - Retail The smaller brother to the one I was using, but again the modular design doesn't help the clutter any and its still better high up there in price. Newegg.com - HIPER HPU-4M480-PS ATX12V v2.2 480W Power Supply 100 - 120V AC cUL,TUV,CB,CE,FCC - Retail At 40 bills this one seems good, 480w isn't too bad as the systems I build are in the midrange category. Still, it lacks the 4+4 pin, and only has one PCI-E connector, so with the 8 pin adapter I have and if I go SLi sometime in the future, I'll lose 4 molex connectors. I'm not too knowledgeable in the PSU area, my only other one is an OEM 420 that came with this old NZXT case, so any recommendations would be helpful Last edited by Stormcrow; June 5th, 2007 at 08:19. | I don't care for Rosewill so I'd have to go for the Hiper, its more than enought to power your system If you go SLI, you might as well plunk down about $100 for a good PSU, as I wouldn't use any of the above for SLI. And, SLI using a 6200? Your going to need to buy 2 new cards if you go SLI, which is pointless. One 8800GTS should be able to handle nearly anything you throw at it.If you can afford it, get this - Newegg.com - OCZ GameXStream OCZ600GXSSLI ATX12V 600W Power Supply 100 - 240 V CB/CE/CSA/UL/FCC - Retail It will serve you well when you upgrade ![]() Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 Conroe @ 2.80GHz Cooler Master GeminII - Thanks Rich and HL! | HL's Technomancer | The OCZ is out of my price range, I'm not going for anything high class and I don't have a lot of peripherals so I don't need a lot of watts or amps. I'm not putting too much money into this setup at first, as when DDR3, Penryn/Barcelona, and the lower segments of R600 come out the prices will fluctuate. The 6200 is serving it's purpose, as a stopgap until I can get a decent midrange card. Seriously, I was using a FX 5500 up until I built this system in February, and a Radeon 9200 before that, so this 6200 is like a champ. I'm looking at getting a 8600 GT, and then later on towards the end of this year picking up another or an 8800 GTS if the price falls low enough. For the PSU, I went ahead and ordered the Rosewill. Simple reason is that it has all the connections I need and more then enough power (even if its watts are overrated, I'm more concerned about the amps) in the price range I can afford. As long as it doesn't explode and its rails stay relatively stable, I'll be happy. I was thinking on something, if I can hijack my own thread. Someone buys a 600-800 watter now, then gets two 9800 GTX's or an R700 next year and finds the system is strained because theres not enough amps on the +12v rails to back them up. Like I said I'm no expert on PSU's, but is it in good money to buy a heavy hitter PSU now for futureproofing? I don't know enough to know if a 1100 watt PSU has enough amps to last it for awhile, but at the rate these high end systems are sucking down the amps should I spend more now to ensure my system runs stable for a few upgrades, or buy a more middleclass PSU now that I know can run the system I'm planning out and just get a newer one next time I do a major upgrade? |

| At Truepower Trio or NeoHE both sell for just a few dollars more in the 550 watt range. |

| Antec Neo 430 is a good choice. The Neo 550 is a bad choice, it is a SLi rated PSU, no need for the much power.
