| The Final Word
| ![]() The VX450W from Corsair touts itself as a low noise and high efficiency 450 watt power supply. Corsair claims the VX450W produces 21db of noise under all but the heaviest loads (not much more than the sound of a whisper at three feet away), and will remain over 80% efficiency over its entire range. They call the VX450W a rock solid performer and ideal solution for home theater PCs (HTPCs) and Energy Star PCs (we read this as mainstream and budget). Oh really? Well, we shall see about that. http://hardwarelogic.com/news/136/AR...007-10-15.html INTEL QX9650 ASUS Maximus Extreme 4GB DDR3-1600 Sapphire HD 3870X2 Danger Den Torture Rack (Custom W/C) Seagate 750GB HDD BFG ES 800W PSU | ||||||||||||||

| I just got myself the 550W version of this VX line and I have to say I was very impressed, especially for only $90. Great sleeved cables and plentiful connections and an awesome bundle (haven't seen anyone else include a pack of zip-ties!). I think the noise on mine is a little louder than I expected, but I haven't determined that for sure yet (might be an old case fan failing). Great review Chris, looks like that new loading unit is doing a good job. Even better to see that VX450 keeping up to the task! ![]() | ||||||||||||||

| Nice review. Testing the voltage ripple was a nice added touch. I couldn't find the suggested retail or price as tested anywhere? | I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.
| Right before the conclusion towards the bottom of page two: Price and Value The $75 to $80 street price at writing puts the price per watt of the VX450W at around $0.173 cents/watt. Not cheap, but not out of line for a quality PSU of this size. The performance combined with the warranty really makes us feel it’s a good value product even at a slightly higher than "normal" price. | ||||||||||||||

I might add that I did see some $20 rebates available. The article pretty much speaks for itself about the PSU, but I like this PSU enough that I have been using it as our "blank" for operating/testing our load equipment. Ironically, the drawback to that has been that I can't hear it so I have to rely on meters to see if it is up and running unless I can see the fan.

Extremely reasonable price. Be good for a few dedicated quad-core folding boxes... | While on the topic of Seasonic-built Corsair branded PSUs, this would be an appropriate time to reiterate that at last year's CES, Rich and I saw Corsair displaying their modular HX620 PSU powering a QX6700 along with two 8800GTX videocards in SLI.
