Default Supreme Commander

So I picked up Supreme Commander a couple days ago and finally got a chance to play it last night.........I have to say its a nice game, nothing spectacular.

For the first two missions everything ran pretty smooth (except a sound card issue where nothing but the background music would play).....However when I got to the third mission, the game would play fine for 30-45 minutes, then slowly bog down until the game freezes. Mind you I have a pretty decent system, and heat is not an issue.

So I go over to the Supreme Commander site to see what other people are having issues with and what they are doing......and I'm blown away by how many people are having problems with "SupCrash" as they call it. It isn't one problem, or even two....its more like a dozen different issues. There have been a couple patches released, but so far these patches have solved very little, and there are a lot of unhappy people out there.

Why do companies do this (besides greed)? They know a program is buggy,, they know it may look good, but after a short while people are going to catch on to the crap they are passing off. It reminds of of the garbage EA was passing off as games when they had the C&C Series.

it works fine for me on my system.... do you have the latest 3220 patch? Does it do it on the missions or in Skirmish and online as well? I will try the missions tonight to see if I get that too on mission 3

Thanks HL and Corsair!

EA is the worst of all. I can barely play Need For Speed Carbon on my computer which should be able to play it pretty fine as far as I know.
Even with the latest patch, you're lucky if the game doesn't crash every 15 minutes.
EA support is close to none. They're never any help when you ask a question, most often than not it's the users from their boards and not techs that help you solve your troubles. When I roll all I see is lights flashing everywhere, barely making it to the 30fps limit. Tried dozens of drivers and settings, no good.
What's worse is that you pay for that. I wish I downloaded it, because it's a horrible experience and waste of money. And i'm not even talking about the game yet...

On the other hand, an awesome company would be Ubisoft. Those guys churn patches all day long, patches that actually fix problems. :P Most of their games are multi-language and not only subtitles but audio too. Graphics are awesome, support for surround, gamepads and much more.

try this. i know it helped my system out a little bit longer

when you load the game press the `~ (tilde key) and type ren_decals
it removed the decals that are on the ground such as i guess you could call it pavement, but i was able to play on medium settings with 3ai till the unit count got to about 100.

also theres an issue with audigy sound cards so go to start>run>type dxdiag then go to the sound card tab. turn the accelleration to basic. this also helped me out as well.

and another wierd thing i did was enable and disable vsync 2 times and it seemed to speed the game up a bit.

Wow. I've been playing SupCom on the system in my sig for awhile now and never had any problems running it. I have all video and audio settings set to Medium except for a few options which are set on High, and the game runs like butter on my machine. I did install the 3220 patch after installing the game, but I have never had any problems with the game at all. I'm very sorry you are having such a bad time with it, Capper. =(

It seems to me to be a Vista/NVIDIA issue more than anything else.

as I said, what I've seen of the game is nice....i just haven't gotten to see that much of it

I would say mostly a Vista issue... as my system is very similar to yours and I am not having any issues, it is likely Vista
