Default Steam may be down

Apparently the Steam server itself is down in the eastern US, maybe others too?? I am unable to get steam started without a connection error and even the support/forum website for steampowered.com are down...

Steam has always been a buggy POS since its inception

Thanks HL and Corsair!

There is a power outage in Washington and Oregon. Over 1 Million homes and businesses without power. The central STEAM servers are indeed powerless. That means NO ONE in the world right now, can log onto steam.

Indeed. There was a huge storm that came through our area. It must have hit them as well.

seems support area is back up...
the forums are back up too albeit very slow

official word from Service Alert :
Quote:
Puget Sound Energy estimates we will be able to restore service to 75,000 customers by the end of today mainly in Bellevue, Olympia and Whidbey Island.
This where the steam servers are located Bellevue I think is the area

I am curious as to WHY they just don't allow a direct connection method or have backup servers like in TX for emergencies such as this...

Thanks HL and Corsair!

If you need a good laugh go look at the steam support forums. They are almost as retarded as the comments at youtube.

Going to the main site doesn't really give you any info. The only message is "Due to technical difficulties, Steam purchases are currently disabled. The rest of the Steam service is operational. We apologize for any inconvenience"

Anyone wanting to read about it, go here. It links to the support page, which is pretty comical since there is no message there about this. One poster writes:

Updated news from VALVe.

Steam Servers are currently in the process of being located to a different facility.

Approximately half of all accounts should now be functioning normally at this time. The remaining accounts will soon follow.

VALVe are working as quickly and as they can on this issue - there are obviously issues of resources/priority as basics such as essential services are taking priority in such a circumstance - as one would hope.

More news as it comes to hand.
