I think it depends on programmers. I'm honestly dead tired of crappy console to PC ports.

I hear ya bro. If you are going to do it for PC then please do it right. Just look at Gears of War. Awesome game for the 360 and had SO much potential for the PC, but they F'd it up.

Crysis was a hit though, and COD4, not to mention WoW, and the latter I'd never pay 15.00\mo for it...

The problem is simply, most recent PC games suck. People are seeing this so they are buying less PC games, most of which are just clones of previous or current games. How many games are based on Valve's HL2 engine, how many on Quake's engine... most games out there now are clones. The ones that are not rehashes are setting the bar.... SupCom, COD4, SOSE and others. Some show off new graphics without really introducing new gameplay (Crysis). The few main publishers/programmers (like EA) are to blame for this as they release sequel after sequel of games that are just clones of the original with maybe a few small differences... and when they do try to change the game, it sucks so bad that it is a disgrace to the series (Command and Conquer is first that comes to mind).
PC gaming is not dead, it is just on life support due to EA's bulls#!t... the only thing we can really do is stop buying EA crap for any system and hopefully send a message... unfortunately saying this in a small community like this is not likely to get the word spread and make much difference. That and some may see it as survival of the fittest business in this exceedingly corporate world.

Gears works fine on my PC, but I know a lot of people had problems. The worse ports though are from Capcom (when Capcom is alone). They don't even both replacing the Playstation X, O, Triangle, Square, Start and Select pictures. You can't remap keys most of the time, it's terrible. I thought Lost Planet would be a failure, but I'm glad Microsoft controlled this one for once.

I think it's dying. The games that are being cranked out these days, in my opinion, just aren't as worthwhile as they used to be. Granted advances in technology and graphics and whatnot are nice and all, but I find they're lacking what the old games used to have. I remember much more fondly the good ol' dos days rather than the stuff that's coming out now.

WOW LIVES FOR ALL!
honestly, PC gaming and in general Video Gaming is on the decline.
All those points about PC games can be translated to console games as well.

Hurry up Blizzard with starcraft 2, the only PC game im really looking forward too this year.

I dont think PC gamings dying, but it is going through a very rough patch. Ive always loved valves games. Sure there all on the same dated engine as screwballl said, but they raise the bar for games. They all seem to be fun, well designed games. If you were a games companys, you'd be damn pleased if you made a game as popular as counter-strike or half life 2
