Default Older games

I've recently gone back to a few older titles, just to see how they perform on this system, as opposed to the system I used to run (Intel s478, P4 3.2ghz, 1GB RAM, 6800GT).

"Jurassic Park" looks and plays better than it ever did before, and only starts to lag a little bit when I have everything going and get to the Dino population limit. "The Sims 2" runs about as well as it did before as far as I can tell, but I'm still on a small lot without a ton of extras.

I still need to look at "Zoo Tycoon 2" and "Immortal Cities: Children of the Nile", which both had trouble on the older system, and then "Star Wars:BF2" and "Star Wars:Republic Commando", both of which never had any problems, except that my 6800 died while on BF2.

Some of my newer games like "Joint Task Force", "FEAR", and "Area 51" (ok, it's not really new...) run fine on my current system. The only new thing I have that gives me a headache is "Flight Sim X". It's so heavy a program, that my 7800GT and my OC'd 3700+ have a tough time when the settings are high. "Flight Sim 2004" runs better. I was hoping "Prey" would be fine, but see my other thread for that story.

Default Re: Older games

the ones I want now are Trainz and Railroads, both Sid Meier games IIRC

I just recently stepped into BF2 and have dropped CS:S altogether... I refuse to go to 2142 with it stupid advertising...

Thanks HL and Corsair!

It's not installed, but I have the Microsoft Train Simulator, where you can run everything from diesels to steam engines, but the steam ones are a pain to run, believe it or not.

Advertising? I don't even pay attention... 2142 is pretty good. It's a smooth transition from bf2, with some nice new extra features. You just might like it

I've always been very fond of Chex Quest. It was based on the Doom engine back in the early nineties. It's abandonware now, and it's definitely worth the time finding it and downloading it.

I never got that far...I never really figured out how to run them that well, because there are too many controls, and too much stuff to do just to get it to run, much less blow them up. I like the deisels better - way easier to run. Though somehow I always managed to derail part of the train.
