My CS:S is acting funny

Ive only had it a few days and just played a game and it went really strange...
first the game kept just stopping for about 20secs then carried on
Then the same thing happened but the screen when blue, not any writing... just blue.
it was on a server i normally play on but I've never had that before. Is the prob on my side or the servers side.
Also a fair few servers don't seem to load or I cant keep a connection with them. is that normal?

Have you installed any software recently, or made any recent hardware changes?

The first things that come to mind is to try updating Direct X and your video card drivers.

You can get the latest build of DX9.0c here and your video card drivers here

when you say that the game stopped for 20 seconds, were you connected to a server playing a game or just searching for a game? Cause my thought is either A. you have a bad internet connection or B. you have something running in the background hogging resources

I was playing a game, the connections fine this side. but just now ive had to system restore after what happened yesterday because windows didnt want to boot. (stuck on loading screen) I think its relatated. Im updating everythink now.
Its the blue screen that worrys me the most. The first stop could have been anything (lag, server probs) but of all the colour screens.. blue.
