| Used to be programs that would emulate a CD ROM drive that you could 'copy' the contents to. Game would see this hard drive copy as a CD ROM and allow you to play. Most (not all) recent games prevent this. | There are also "fixed .exe" game files that you can replace the original .exe files with that will let you play the came without needing the disk. This is for people, for example, that want to keep the original disks in perfect condition and not have the need to use it every time they want to run the game. I will not link anything here, because often times these "fixed .exe"s are associated with pirated games since people download them and don't have a disk to play it with. Either way, a quick search of the game title and fixed .exe after it or something like that should get you going. |

| i'm sorry but your right those FIXED>.EXEs' are hacked/cracked programs that let you run without CD, but its not encouraged here due to copyright law, and besides i would discouraged that too due to virus and other threats. and those cracked programs are not 100% functional, you will be having a fit right in middle of the game you get halted for corrupted programs or some sort. if you want to protect your CD use some CD Sleeves/Protectors, its $1.00 each can be bought in bulk like $15.0 for 25 sleeves ![]() Abit IP35-E C2D E6750 G0 @ 2.66ghz [TR Ultra120EX] EVAG 8800GTS [TR HR03] Corsair [2gbDual@800] 820GB HDD[120/200/500] Antec TP 550W Silverstone Temjin 09 Saitek Eclipse1 & Razer DeathAdder Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit |

| Lol good point halutz, however some people may prefer to keep their games in original packaging after once installing them, and not touch them until they may be needed again later. Not that I don't agree with you - what's the big deal as long as you're careful? - I guess people just have their reasons. This may or may not be the reason for this thread, too. Either way, that's pretty much the only way nowadays. I recommend just using the CD to be honest, but it's your choice. It's possible that he installed the game a month ago, didn't play it for 3 weeks, lost the disk, and now wants to play it again (for example). In this case you gotta go the way I mentioned, although again, it isn't recommended in general. A lot of the cracked .exes do a fine job in making the game just as playable as using the disk (yes, I've tried with a few of my games like Far Cry, NFS Most Wanted, and Oblivion), but it's up to you. TECHNICALLY, the use of these ARE legal as long as you RETAIN A VALID, BOUGHT, AND LICENSED COPY OF THE GAME. So keep that in mind. |

| qoute St!X : TECHNICALLY, the use of these ARE legal as long as you RETAIN A VALID, BOUGHT, AND LICENSED COPY OF THE GAME. So keep that in mind. this is a big debate they calling a loophole on system or gray market, you can have a backup copy only if you have the original, and nver to reproduce them for a profit. Nah just telling him the most easy yet most legal technical point, but i agree with you St!x i do sometimes wants to keep orginal CD intact but i'm not a collector of this so what the heck if its broke it broke, i wont be playing them anymore.[personally point] ps. make your Sig mugantenshen Hal Abit IP35-E C2D E6750 G0 @ 2.66ghz [TR Ultra120EX] EVAG 8800GTS [TR HR03] Corsair [2gbDual@800] 820GB HDD[120/200/500] Antec TP 550W Silverstone Temjin 09 Saitek Eclipse1 & Razer DeathAdder Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit |

| Yea forum rules say you need a sig with your entire system specs in it. Check out my Official Signature Request Thread for more details on a custom one if you're interested. And hal, I hear you man. I really don't care too much about the "protecting CDs" deal - I just make sure I don't mangle them while they're moving in and out of their cases.. |

| I have heard that you can "clone" the game to run off your HDD, but I also heard it's illegal (I have a feeling that this thread is going to be locked soon).
