Default GOOD computer = smooth cs?

Okay i think i have a good computer but why wont my cs run smooth? Could it be my internet???? But we upgraded our internet to a shaw extreme. In the past my cs ran fine and when i go to a server lcoated in san jose in runs fine too. But i dont get it runs whacky and laggy. I also heard that shaw is a community internet like shares? "Shaw is a cable or internet company i dont know" My specs are an amd athlon 64 3500+ 2.2ghz 1 gb of ram. nvidia 79000GS 256mb EVGA

Your computer is well equipped spec-wise to run both counter-strike and counter-strike source at relatively high settings.

If you are still lagging, check your ping.

my ping goes like this 50 60 100 150 40 skipping back and forth. When i refresh in the server the server ping goes 50 500 34 300. By the way i am running counter strike 1.6

Well not necessarily because counter-strike:source runs amazing, but counter-strike itself runs like crap and i have an 8800gtx. I know all about the console commands w/ "rate", "cl_cmdrate", "cl_updaterate", etc. but it still runs terrible. Nothing is smooth and bullets seem not to register. Ill show you guys a video maybe later.

Oh then thats an internet problem. Unless you modified console commands yourself

Well it cant be my internet i used the same internet in the past and it works fine but now i dont know. How can i get my internet to become faster though my parents pay like alot of money for it i think.

Does not really grey out this option. It could be anything, from your modem and your router, to your drivers or your NIC.
