| Anyone here have a PS3? If so, I hope it's living up to your expectations. Hope you will consider using it to fold for the HL folding team once Stanford releases the folding client ![]() The PS3 still hasn't reached U.K shores, due in a few weeks. Is it worth the steep asking price in your opinion? You should fold!!! Join us: Team 50578 Racing Team Penguin to 100k.... within 20k now |

| Like I said though, if the client uses all the cores, then it would be worth it, if it doesn't , then just get an allendale, or Barcelona when they come out Opteron 64 165--1.5GB DDR--ECS KA1 MVP(thanks HL!)--x1800GTO 256MB--Seagate 320GB SATA--Antec 550 Watt--Antec P180 |

Besides, when the PS4 comes out, I guarantee you that it won't be going for no $600 or $800 dollars. When the PS4 is released, I wager it will probably fetch close to $1,200 dollars. Why? Look at the PS2. When it was released, you could buy it for $400. The PS3? $800 dollars. Keeping in mind this trend line, one doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to know that the price for the next console will surely double from the console before it.

PS4 Basic $700 Nintendo Wii Wii $300 XBox 720 $300 I'm afraid that hardware price tracking just doesn't work on trends of the past. All that said, I still don't think it is a good deal, mainly because the 360 Premium is $100 cheaper then the PS3 basic, and they perform pretty much identical (even with the PS3s notable higher system hardware). | Yes, it may now, but when it was first released it was commanding an $800 dollar price tag. That's street price, too. As in, stores like Best Buy and Circuit City were charging that amount for their PS3 consoles. In any case, the hubub of the PS3 has died down considerably, and so has its price. Quote:
I would say that within the next 6-8 months, owning a Blu Ray drive will cost no more than $300 to $350 dollars. A price that is easily paid (and within budget) when building a system that outperforms any console on the market today.

| No Sanity, no problem. | That I have to disagree with, epically if you are once again going to use the declining price argument and not place it on the other end as well. PS3s will also decline (rumor is $100 within the next few months). I defy anyone to build a computer that can play BluRay disk and game as well as a PS3 for $400 (expected price of a PS3 basic), or basically, $100 for every component combined, then a BluRay drive. It just can't be done. A DECENT gaming rig would cost about $600, and it would be able to keep up with a PS3, a good rig would ring about $1000 (as my currently does, and I happen to consider it good :D) and still not be able to play BluRay.
