Default Dwarf Fortress

Anyone here play Dwarf Fortress?
Bay 12 Games: Dwarf Fortress

Its really cool, I'm trying to learn how to play it better. It's kinda like the Sim* games, think of it as SimDwarf.

You build your fortress (underground) and try to keep your dwarves alive. There are 10+ levels of underground and each level is randomly generated before you play (it takes about 2-10 minutes to randomly generate a world, depending on how many times it decides to re-build).

If you wanna try it, at least play it 2-3 times before you give up, and READ THE WIKI (Main Page - DwarfFortressWiki), including "Your First Fortress".

Don't mind the ASCII graphics, there's a mod (get it here)(May Green) that changes it to NES/SNES quality graphics. There are a few bugs with the mods, but they don't mess with the gameplay.

The first time I played, all my dwarves died because I didn't make anything for them to drink, and once they ran out of the initial surplus, they all died. >.>

lol.

[edit] I just noticed that if u google "Dwarf Fortress SNES" this page is #9 of ~4700

If you're using the mod, the / and * keys (NUMPAD) change your level. Make sure Numlock is on :P

F1 centers your wagon (aka: the starting area)

Spacebar is like the escape key if you're in menus, unless it says "F9 to abort" or something like that.

my fortress was rockin! i was up to 135 dwarfs, had a huge iron deposit one level below my main fortress. had over 3000 food and 1000 drink, then a MASSIVE force of goblins (im talking like 40 archers) and 15 trolls showed up, as it happened, there was a human caravan in at the time so they helped a bit. anyway the enemy smashed down my doors and whooped my ass. im down to 65 dwarfs. and most of them are really pissed off. >.<

I saw the title and thought it was a TF2 mod...
I will wait until a better graphical version comes available...

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Build lots of traps to avoid being invaded. Maybe build the only entrance to your base over a -20 pit into Magma and have traps so when they try to get in they just fall into death.

Also, u can tell ur Dwarves to never go outside, if you've become self-sustainable. Its in the Orders menu I think.
