Default Bf2142 Repost

Ok well I bought bf2142 2 months ago and I haven't even been able to play it yet!! To give you guys an idea of what I'm using ill show my PC specs for you:

e6600 @ 3.5 ghz Stable
evgga 680i mobo
1x evga 8800gtx
2gb Corsair DDR2 PC2-8500
X-Fi Gamer Creative Labs Sound Card
WINDOWS VISTA!!!!
Logitech 5.1 speakrs
Logitech USB mic
Logitech g5 mouse
Logitech g15 Keyboard

Ok well this is what's going on: The game loads up normally with the intro video and all n then the account user name and password... I put my info in and then i fix my video settings to 1600x1200 @ 60hz... I now go to start a single player match... IT loads, but then once it finishes loading the game crashes and says bf2142 has stopped working... I've tried to even doing the Windows XP sp2 compatibility mode but then it tells me i need to insert the CD/DVD, and that's already in... I'm so lost... I spent all this money on my pc so i can play games like this and now im extremely disappointed... Does anyone know what i can do to fix this!? I haven't even been able to play the game ONCE for about 2 months now!! I think its a sound issu because everytime i click AUDIO in options the game crashes as well... I cant even get into the audio section at all... Well any ideas?

thats a wierd problem.....

have you tried un-installing the game, reinstalling it and the patches?

another thing that may or may not help (but is worth a shot) is to go to run, then type dxdiag, then go to the audio properties and change the acceleration level to basic. like i said, dont know if it will help, but it wouldnt hurt.

also do you have your onboard audio enabled or disabled?

Vista.

Its new, its slick, is awesome, but again, its new. I'd be willing to bet BF2142 just flatout doesn't work well with vista *yet*. If the latest drivers and game patches don't help, download all the updates for vista through automatic updates, and then browse this site for other updates

The Software Patch - Download site for patches, upgrades, service packs and hardware drivers

Be sure to grab this one, for some reason I didn't have the option of installing this through the automatic updates, but this does help out alot.

Download the Windows Vista Software Compatibility update to fix common compatibility issues in Windows Vista

There are numerous sources around the web that show or mention poor BF2142 performance in Vista, especially with nVidia drivers. But that alone may or may not be causing your crashes. Have you tried setting your resolution and refresh rate before even opening the game?

You may want to try dialing your overclocks down a bit to see if that takes care of it. Games and high overclocks sometimes cause random errors like you describe.

But it's probably just Vista's immaturity.

I would be willing to bet money that there is a driver compatibilty issue with Vista and the game and/or video card. I tried to play BF 2 on Vista and had problems from the get go on a FX 5200. I downloaded this and downloaded that and FINALY got it to run but the textures were so messed up that it was just unplayable and the sky had no texture at all just a white background. So if BF 2 had those problems, then it would be a safe bet that BF 2142 will have it as well but worse. It just sounds like a driver problem to me.

I would say start with stepping down the overclocks to say around 2.8 or lower (best bet would be stock speed), then try the latest drivers all around.. then try XP compatibility mode.. if all else fails then it will not run on that system until Vista fixes something

Thanks HL and Corsair!

I would also bet on Vista being fussy with 2142. I've seen most of the errors and issues that go along with 2142 and EA's patches playing on XP, but this is the first I've heard of this type of issue. That leads me to believe It's the new OS. I wish I had more information to offer you, but I haven't touched Vista yet, and don't plan on it for quite some time. Good luck, I think these other guys are on the right track.
