Anyone install the WoW 14-day trial on the MaxPC DVD?

I just received the November issue and saw this. I'm installing currently as I type. Anyone one else notice/try this?

I didn't. I think WoW looks really retarded. I may try it eventually when I'm bored and finished with HL2.

I played a character on a friends account for a while (up to like lever 18 or so). It was fun, and I might even spend the $$ to buy the game, but would NEVER pay a monthly subscription fee for it; so in that sense, I don't like WoW. If they did away with the montly cost, then I would consider it because it is very open ended, has average to decent graphics, gameplay was smooth, and it is a new/interesting genra of game that is a nice step away from the typical FPS or something.

I have to agree with Blake, I will not, repeat, will not give around $50.00 for a game and then have to pay a monthly fee to continue playing!!!!!

Guild wars is some what like WoW and once you buy the game, there is no monthly fee

And I must say, that the last I read there was well over 2.5 million people that have bought Guild wars.

Not a bad game, but god I played it for around 8 months strait, and really got burt out on it!

We've got some links to some free, open-source competition to WoW in the free games list (LINK). Knight Online seems to be very similar to WoW from what I see, but when I tried to play it (I've only tried twice, once tonight and once when I posted the thread) it said that the server is undergoing maintenence. I'm not a big fan of the MMOPRGs, but if you are, you'll probably like it (if you can connect to the server, that is).

I have to admit, for the graphics, Knight Online is a hella awesome game. And on top of it, it's free!

I installed WoW, but it said it had to download a 465MB update. So I said screw it.

I think I should play Knight again though.

No offense, but I really haven't played it THAT much. I played it for about 20-30 minutes at a friend's house. I spent that time killing these little slug things. I'm downloading the client right now though. After a few days, I'll write it. :)
