Default Zalman ZM-NBF47 North Bridge Passive Cooler

"Zalman's been among our favorite cooling companies for a long time. Today we're examining a passive solution to a key component that is often overlooked - the north bridge." - Josh Williams

I've been looking forward to a review on this cooler ever since I first saw it. I'm proud to say that HardwareLogic is the host of the first review I've seen on this cooler, thanks Josh (Yuri)!

Could you just bend the fins apart a little and slide the graphics card through the fins?

Very impressive results though. Seems like a very impressive little cooler. But looks like it would be much more compatible with boards that locate the NB chipset above the video card slot rather than next to or below it...

Have to agree with ya Blake. The DFI nf4 Ultra-D has the NB cooler right next to the video card, so unless, as you ask, you can spread the fins, it would not be a cooler that could be used on this board, and I would imagine a lot of other mobo's.

None the less, great review Josh!!!!!

While I was editing this article, I found a review of it that used an Intel chipset. They got a lot more performance than I did with the nVidia one. It's quite an impressive cooler :)

No, because the fins are slanted at the point it interferes with the video card. To tell you the truth, that's the only complaint I have against this cooler.

Very true, especially if you have an especially long graphics card. The Asus card I'm using is pretty average sized, and it only left about half a mm between it and the cooler. If I brought the heat sink over any farther, it would not have full contact with the north bridge.

You have to be careful moving the heat sink while you're trying to get the PCI-E card in so you don't wipe all the TIC off. With the push-pins I used, I was able to just lift the cooler while sliding it.
