Default Water Cooling Upgrade Cycle

Hi guys,

Well, as some of you know, I deconstructed my PC and water cooling loop in order to make measurements for this custom tech station I'm working on. Well, I got all the measurements done on the station and I'm a bit fed up with having to use my laptop for everything. But there are a few problems...
  1. In most of my loop, I used the stock plastic barbs that Swiftech provides. It was so hard to get the tubing off the plastic barbs that I ended up just cutting the tubing right before the barb. That means I'll need all new (preferably metal) barbs. These look pretty nice.
  2. I made the HUGE mistake of trying to hand lap my Apogee GT. I tried using the sandpaper left over from lapping mt CPU, and long story short, I COMPLETELY f***ed up the base of the block.
  3. I also did the dumbass thing of trying to bow my Apogee GT, after screwing the base. I put the fatter O-ring in and tighted down the block, but then I remembered, "Oh, I lapped my CPU for a reason" so I tried to un-bow it by putting the original O-ring in. Long story short, I f**ked up my CPU block again. I think I should just get a whole new block.
  4. Since I cut the tubing when taking apart my loop, I no longer have any tubing the right length to put my loop back together. This reason, along with the barb issue, gives me a reason to upgrade to 1/2in tubing, up from the 3/8in. I'm currently running.
  5. Because I decided to upgrade tubing sizes, I have to get a new top for my pump so it will support 1/2in. tubing (right now only 3/8in. will fit). I was thinking of getting the Petra's Tech top, but low-and-behold this also costs money (which I don't have).
  6. Because I had to break down my loop, I no longer have any of the PC Ice stuff I was using before. That means I have to get some more coolant, maybe the Pentosin or Hydrx. This also costs money (which I don't have)
So the summarized version: I have to get a lot of stuff that costs money so I can put my rig back together. The only problem is, I don't have any green ones right now.

I'll update this thread (most likely with pics) when I finally de get the money. Have a great day.

Nate, I completely feel your pain on the plastic barbs problem. Tubing is such a pain to take off them compared to the metal barbs. Although it is difficult, it is not impossible. It may take a few minutes to pull tubing off a plastic barb versus a few seconds pulling it off a metal one.

Also, my pump just died this weekend so my main rig is down unti I get the pump RMA'd.

HAHAHAHA, you're too much Nate!
Maybe you should have thought about the fact you have no money before you hacked up all your tubing!

hehe, just playin' man. Maybe you could just get a new block for now and use your old tubing and barbs in a new configuration (like just set up on the desktop, no case) until you save up enough money for the rest of your components?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Also I'd just like to add that I'm known as the "brainless one" at my school, so you shouldn't be surprised that I do some extremely stupid things from time to time. Ironically, I have a 4.0 GPA and am taking advanced classes.

Damn, RAID that sucks, that pump died pretty quick, should I be worried?

Very, very, VERY good news! My parents agreed to help pay for some of the water cooling stuff because of my good grades... and excellent persuasion skillz! :P

I'm looking at getting this stuff:
  1. D-Tek Fuzion CPU Block (barbs included)- $60
  2. 4 D-Tek 1/2in. barbs - $10
  3. 10ft. Masterkleer 1/2in. tubing - $8
  4. Petra's DDC-01 pump top (barbs included) - $30
  5. Total - around $125 with shipping
All stuff will be ordered from Petra's Tech. This isn't final yet, but my mom is on board, and hopefully my dad.

It's odd that your MCP655 died so fast. Did you ever run that pump dry?

I am sorta reluctant to move to water cooling for these reasons of lack of portability, and more potential for failure.

Maybe one day :-/

nah, Nate complain is he cant settle down with his rig, and have to disassemble everything... other than that ITCH of breaking it down and building it again by enthusiast like all of us here WC is fun...
the potential of failure is mostly end user fault... be bold cross the boundaries of fear...
