Default Thermaltake Big Typhoon CL-P0114 CPU Cooler Review

"Today HardwareLogic looks at a monster of a cooler from Thermaltake, the Big Typhoon CL-0114 CPU cooler. Read on as we put the Big Typhoon up against some pretty stiff competition and see if it's the best cooler for that new Core 2 Duo CPU." - Rich Caporali

And this is why I love this cooler. :P

The mounting on the VX version is less painful as this one. The s775 installation is a joke compared to the s939 for the v1, where you'll need to tighten 2 screws that are practically unreachable with any decent screwdriver because of the bulky "fins block" + fan. You will probably move the heatsink a bit up and down to tighten each screw at once, which isn't the best thing to do if you want the optimal contact between the CPU and the HS (air, eek!). The finish could be better with some machining marks, but overall it isn't ugly either.
Because of it's size, you might not be able to fit it on every motherboard/in every tower, first because it might interfere with some components on the board (memory, capacitors, heatsink) and second because it might interfere with the power supply or case supports since some sockets are located to close to the top of the board.
Anyway, polo recommends it, always! :thumleft:

Bah for the difference it makes it isn't really worth looking back or even thinking about getting another one. Really, ~4C doesn't make that much of a difference when you're a "moderate overclocker". It's not like you were trying to break any air WR (I hope). :P

Yeah, I'll be writing up the Zalman this week. It does a better job of cooling the surrounding components, and its very quiet....difference wasn't really noticeable.

I got the Big Typhoon because it is so big. I thought it would be cool to say I have one, plus it seemed like a good way to get really good cooling and it gets the job done. It is a bit ungainly, but it amazes me that I can still keep temps under 40°C on a loaded 38% overclock. Temps can climb to 42°C on a stress load, but that ain't bad either! Obviously, the temps are less when not OC'd, but in any case, the temps I used to get on my P4 @3.2ghz stock w/stock cooler were higher than this 3700+ OC'd! I should've had one on the P4.

The Big Typhoon Rocks!!

If it's not fixed, then don't broke it!
