honestly, that cooler is about as good as you'll get on air.
I'dprobably just lap the bottom a bit.....but theres not much out there thats better when it comes to air cooling

i see, i was just hoping for something a little quieter plus it sounds like the bearing is going bad when its at max speed, kind of like a grinding sound

How old is it? I believe those Sunon fans used have a 50,000 hr BMTF.....and it would be covered under warranty

I think the Vantec IceberQ CCB-A1C and the Evercool VC-RE have been reported to work. They are all copper but are still low profile active coolers. I can't guaruntee that they will really be much, if any quieter, but they may cool slightly better and will be able to replace a failaing fan.

HEY! That's pretty cool. I'd seen the review on this at MadShrimps, but had yet to see it in a retail store! Pretty nifty :D

i purchased it on 1 November 2005, so it should still be under warranty. i think ill take some canned air to it and see if helps it might be dust or something in it.

blake, that vantec looks great but i was wondering if the vantec iceberq4 would fit it looks the same as the one you posted, just with a higher cfm fan that spins at 6000rpm @ 24dbA and blue leds
heres the link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835110106

Hmmm, that's a tough call on the Vantec CCB-A4C cooler.
Quote:
Pros: Excellent cooling, removed the original chipset cooler from my DFI SLI-DR, Combined with Artic-5 thermal compound temperature of chipset went down of a good 5-6C degrees.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Be advised that to install this on a DFI SLI-DR you have to saw/cut a small piece of the cooler to fit properly on the motherboard. Nothing too hard.

This reviewer reports that his/her technical understanding of this type of product is high and has owned this product between 1 day to 1 week.
That guy in the Newegg reviews that said he put it on an an SLI_DR motherboard and the holes lined up but you need to modify it a little bit. Sounds like it might work, but with a little modification. It's up to you I guess...
