Default Possible temp issues.

I just built a new system about 3 weeks ago. E6600 with a Zalman 9500 LED. Now I know these new Intel CPUs are supposed to run really cool, but it seems like everyone's temps I keep reading about seem to be way cooler then mine. I sit at about 37C - 38C at idle. Does this seem high? I'm using a Thermaltake Armor case so I have plenty of cooling fans. I redid the cooler once already and that did drop the temps down. I did the thin vertical line thing that AS' site recommends. I'm just wondering if I should redo it once more with the 2 tiny dots on each core like I'm seeing a lot of people have posted.

Thoughts?

Your idle temperatures seem ok, but it is really the load temperatures you want to be concerned about. Download Stress Prime 2004 and run a Small FFT test. The test will run indefinitely until it either calculates an error (your system is unstable) or you stop the test. Watch your temperatures climb once the test is started. After about 15 minutes or so your temperatures should stabilize and that can be considered your high load temperature. If it ever starts to go much above 50ºC, then stop the test, you will probably want to look into a better cooling solution.

That resting temp is hard to judge without an indication of the ambient room temp. We need a little more info to give an answer.

Thanks for the quick replies. I will check that test out gv.

I agree Ed, I think that the ambient temps. are actually what's causing the increase. I just can't seem to get that room to stay cool. Stupid 2nd floor computer room in our town home is just always warm. The wife and I hate sleeping in the heat. I think it may be time to get the central air going soon. /dreads the thought of that bill.

the temp on my E6600 with an oversized cooler (in sig) is still usually around 35ºC and this is with a room temp of around 80ºF

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Are you overclocking at all?

I have an E6600 with a CNPS9500 as well. My CPU is at 3.3Ghz and 1.3250 volts. Idle is about 40*C and loaded is 50*C at 72*F room temp. I have decent enough airflow in my case. The max temp for this CPU is 60*C. Some say it's higher, but 60.1*C is the only info about temp limits I've found on Intel's website.

I've had my CPU stable at 3.4Ghz, but I had to run the voltage to 1.3525V to get it there and my temps were right at 62-64*C.

As mentioned above, you need to tell us more info for us to help you out.

No overclocking atm. I want to be sure my CPU has had enough time for the burn in to take place. It should be good to go by now. I'm gonna try that Stress Prime program to see how things go.

Specs:
Intel E6600 -- Zalman 9500LED
Nvidia 680i Rev. A1
Nvidia 8800 GTX Superclocked
2 GB Corsair Dominator DDR2 1065
Thermaltake Armor (120mm on front and back. 90mm top and back, 25cm fan on side.)
22in. Samsung LCD
WD Raptor 150G
Seagate 300G
2 Samsung DVD Burners w/Lightscribe
SB Gamer Fatal1ty

Ok, first thing I did when I got home from work was to put one of those dual fans intake/exhaust in my window of my office so that I could cool the room down. With the room at a normal temp. (not sure of exacts) my Nvidia Monitor program is reading a CPU temp of 34C which seems what a lot of others are getting.

I ran CPU Burn-in instead of that Prime program. I fired up 2 instances of it for 15 mins. and my temps jumped to 41C. Seems like like my temps are pretty good then. Just an occasional hotter than normal room. Which makes sense seeing as the door is closed most of the time to my PC room. I should be able to overclock a good bit it would seem. *crosses fingers*

The dual core version of Orthos works well..

Download Stress Prime 2004 BETA

This does work in Vista

Well, my temps seem to be ok so far. I OC'd to 3ghz and temps with 30mins of CPU Burn-in and running Core Temp were stable at about 55C for both cores. Sound ok?
