| I HAVE A PENTIUM D 945 3.4GHZ. WITH MY CPU FAN IM GETTING LOAD TEMPS OF 58C. THIS IS A LITTE HIGH THAN I WANT . IF ANY CAN CONISDER WHAT IS THE BEST AVAILABLE AIR COOLING FAN AVAILABLE ON THE MARKET????????????????? Q2. I ALSO WANT TO UNDERCLOCK INORDER TO LOWER TEMPS IN THE MEAN TIME. AS DURING HOT DAYS MY PC ALARM BEEPS (ASUS PC PROBE) AND APPLICATIONS GET UNSTABLE. ANY UNDERCLOKCIGN SOFTWRES ??????? |

| Modder-ator | First off, welcome to HardwareLogic! Second, you don't need to post using all caps, it is hard to read and it gives the impression you are YELLING at us... ![]() As for your temperature issue, 58șC is a on the high side, but is not at the point where your going to have a meltdown. I generally try and keep temps at or below the 50șC - 55șC range. If you want to upgrade the cooling, check out the latest products from Thermalright. The Ultima 90, Ultra 120, Ultra 120 Extreme, and IFX-14 Inferno coolers are some of their best products. Just remember though that those don't come with a fan, so it is up to you to pair a fan with it for the best cooling. You can also check out the Scythe Ninja, Scythe Infinity, Zalman CNPS9700, Thermaltake V1, Thermaltake Big Typhoon, and Cooler Master GeminII (among others). When overclocking (and underclocking) it is usually best to perform all those operations directly in the motherboard BIOS. Please list your system specifications and make a signature per the forum rules. Then we can give you specific guidance on how to overclock and underclock your specific system. |

| Welcome to HL! Underclocking is the same as overclocking. Go into the BIOS, but instead of raising the FSB and voltages, lower the FSB, and in turn the voltage. You still have to test for stability, as you might have lowered the voltage too much. |

| sorry about the signature didnt know jus created one. my system specs are now showing hopefully. i was looking to underclock the system in order to reduce heat as i run most gams fairly easy anyway. jsu dont know where to start. i understand all the jargon in the bios but dont know what to change and how much and is there any risk in underclocking pc specs: mobo:asus p5ne-sli,E6600,2gb corsair xms2 800mhz,80gb maxtor daimond 20 hard drive,160gb sata on the way!!! evga 7800gt gpu.(8800gt on the way!!) |

| I dont think theres any risk at all in underclocking a CPU, just not many people do it. As for what to change.... 1. look to see if you can find and CPU options on the bios, this should include a multiplier (which will be locked) and a FSB (aka host frequency on my asrock). The FSB should be set to 200mhz or just labeled as 200. 2. Once you find the FSB settings, try lowering it down by about 10, then boot into windows. 3. keep going till; a) youve reached the speed you want or b) windows wont boot anymore. 4. when windows wont boot, look in your manual for how to clear the CMOS. Do so then go just higher FSB than when it wouldnt boot. 5. test for stability. |

would i have to lower voltage aswell or is that uneccasry. remember my aim is to lower temps. pc specs: mobo:asus p5ne-sli,E6600,2gb corsair xms2 800mhz,80gb maxtor daimond 20 hard drive,160gb sata on the way!!! evga 7800gt gpu.(8800gt on the way!!) | |

| you could lower voltage is u feel the temps u get are still to high. If u want to lower voltage, when u find the point it wont boot, lower the voltage by a tiny bit, (maybe 0.05v or less) and try again. U might find when u lower the voltage, u have to lower the fsb down even more to get it to boot up |

| If your aim is lower temps, the voltage will be the thing to really want to lower. Be careful though, only lower it a tiny bit or else your system will be unstable. It the exact opposite of overclocking; instead of raising the FSB and voltage, lower the FSB and voltage. But you still have to test for stability. |

| socket 939 junkie | try lowering the voltage a little bit and then stress test like you would if you were overclocking. if it passes, try lowering the voltages a little bit more and re-test until it becomes unstable. then i would suggest that you lower the cpu multiplier before the fsb. im not sure, but i would believe the Pentium D 945 should have unlocked downward multipliers. if not, then your only choice is to lower the fsb |
